amore?

I used my new cookbook and made pizza, from scratch! I grew up on Chef Boyardee pizza kits and have actually always loved them, but there’s something odd about a full meal that can sit in a box on a shelf for years? This pizza wasn’t all that labor intensive, but you better whip out [...]

maters

Grow ‘em.

Pick ‘em.

Eat ‘em!
There’s nothing like a home grown tomato, especially when you get a big juicy bite while it’s still warm from the sun… mmmm…..mm.  One more thing to love about summer!

We had a laid back weekend filled with……

Good food: Fish tacos, a new favorite around here. Grill some seasoned halibut (or other white fish), some pico, jalapeno ranch, greens, and dig in! They taste better than they sound. Promise.

Learning a little about  Memorial Day…..

Drinks!

Plants and lanterns? Not really, but I just liked this picture for [...]

Snickerdoodles

Pax always sneaks a taste (or two) of the sugar.

For the first time, Scout helped in the kitchen facing forward in the sling.  He seemed to like checking everything out, but somehow ended up with batter in his hair? Somehow…actually it  was cookie dough Momma dropped while sneaking a taste!

blackberry cobbler

Blackberry cobbler is simply, hands down, my favorite food.
I can’t really pinpoint why. It’s a little bitter, and a little sweet…gooey and full of tiny, crunchy seeds….and unfortunately, cobbler itself is one of the least presentable desserts, compared to it’s cousins pie, cake, and cookies.   It’s somehow still so delicious and perfect.

I use Paula Dean’s cobbler recipe, if you couldn’t tell [...]

black and white

The common thread among most of our home is black and white. It’s everywhere. Not because I’m fond of either color in particular, but more because I’m indecisive and they are safe choices. Being unable to make a decision is one of my most prominent qualities…to be visited in a later post..check out my [...]

round 2

Well, I’m on round 2 of eating vegetarian (I still eat fish, so actually a vegequarian: thanks Ashley!) after a hiatis during pregnancy. Chicken lettuce wraps are a favorite dish and last night I made the recipe with tofu. Not bad, but honestly, I can’t really claim I enjoy it as a meat substitute. [...]

supper in the afternoon

Anyone who has been around a newborn has probably experienced what they call “The Witching Hour.” For some unexplained reason, many newborns become crankier in the evenings during the first few months. So, the only way we get a homemade meal around this place is if I prepare it in the afternoon while [...]

mellow yellow

Since Pax is lactose intolerant, there’s no purchasing a good ‘ole Snack Pack of pudding. Instead, I make it from the box with soy milk.

I usually make chocolate or vanilla, but today I opted for banana. Out came such a generic yellow color, it left me curious and eager to make banana pudding from scratch.

 Considering [...]

morning muffins at bedtime

Last night, as the day was winding to an end, I decided to make some Morning Glory Muffins.  Of course, I had plenty of help and we all sampled a warm muffin before snuggling into bed.  How I love muffins, they are perfect no matter what time of day.
